Website ready

The questionnaire is now on line and ready to be answered. As we have contacted the newspapers, our article should be published soon. We hope some people will answer the questionnaire but nothing is sure. At least we would have tried !

The logo is also ready and will be in the article.

So this week, we are waiting for more answers concerning the questionnaire. Yesterday, we decided to start designing the fishways.
As we won't have time to deal with the 4 dams because it represents a huge load of work, we've decided to focus on Aminnefors and Billnäs dams so that we could make more details plans for this area. For the first dam, t is likely to be a rock ramp fishway and for Billnäs dam, it should be bypass fishway.

In our website, we have put some more information concerning these fishways (http://mustionjokiriverrestoration.jimdo.com/our-project/fishways/) and we are now processing on how to design them in terms of dimensions, implementation, materials, etc.

Onwards

We found a person who translated the questionnaire in Swedish. We have it in 3 languages now. The questionnaire has been sent to the representatives from 5 associations (or actually 4 but I'll call one of them tomorrow and sent the last one after that). They told that they could answer those relatively soon. It is interesting to see how many answers we will get. Probably at least 5 but hopefully more. We found out that people are more willing to fill questionnaires than to do one-to-one interviews and therefore we decided to use the questionnaire. I attached some pictures of it here.

The questionnaire should on the website after the weekend. So next week we can call the newspapers again and ask if the small advertisement about the website and the questionnaire could be published soon.

We also got more background material (thanks to one guest lecturer from Finland's environmental administration). Lots of useful information.

So what is happening right now is roughly:

We are waiting for the first answers to the questionnaire.
The logo and website are being prepared.
The visual plan is designed (maps and pictures are being prepared by the architecture students).
We are contacting the newspapers again.

After two weeks all the material from the interviews (questionnaires) should be processed. Then we can make the final plans and write the report and the articles.

It is interesting to see what kind of answers we will get with the questionnaire. Some things have been very challenging, but everything seems to be going well for now.

A new website

This week, we've been progressing as we received answers from the associations. They are likely to help us. As Mika said, we created a website instead of a forum because we think it's the easiest way to communicate with people and to present our work and our progress step by step in the project.

The website is still under construction but I'm working on it, I already put our questionnaire for the associations and a presentation of our project. There will be 3 questionnaires, or maybe 2 questionnaires don't know yet : in english (is it useful ?), finnish and swedish. We are still looking for someone who could help us translating it in swedish. So dear readers, if you know someone or if you feel like you can do it, please feel free to contact us ! We'll be very grateful !

Making progress

Also two associations from Karjaa were interested in participating, so everything is going as planned. It is a little bit slow to get answers from them because they are having meetings before they can really tell how they could participate (find out if there are persons who could be interviewed etc.). It seems to take a bit more than one week before we have answers from all of the 5 associations and we can interview everyone. Not too early but not too late either.

In the meantime our questionnaire-website is getting ready as well as a the visual plan.

Contacts

At least three local associations seem to be interested in participating, giving interviews and opinions about the river. They will contact us during the next week. Two associations have not answered yet, but I'll try to call them again in the beginning of the next week.

Also Etelä-Uusimaa newspaper was interested. They told that publishing our article would be possible in April or in May. We will also create a website where local people can fill a questionnaire and present their opinion. I was told also that it could also be possible to publish a small article about the project and the URL of our questionnaire-website (to collect opinions) in the newspaper before the final article.

So everything seems to go well. Hopefully we can get opinions from all of the 5 associations. I quess that would represent the opinion of the local people relatively well.
